China has recently announced that it is planning to build another 25,000 kilometers of oil and gas pipelines by the year 2010 to support briskly growing economic development. The announcement was made by the China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPPLB). At present level the total length of China’s gas and oil pipelines stands at 40,000 kilometers.

In the meanwhile some reports also suggest that Plans for natural gas pipelines linking China and Russia have almost entered the implementation phase. However, uncertainty still persists as pricing issues are still unresolved.

As a matter of fact, China has brought its energy policies as its prime concern at home and abroad in recent years to sustain and support its double digit growth rate. China is also keenly expanding its exploration and production activities across the globe and particularly in Central Asia.

Russian gas company Gazprom wants to build two major pipelines to supply 80 billion cubic meters of gas per year to China. The official Xinhua news agency reported last year that Gazprom had started construction on the western Siberia-China pipeline.
